San Lorenzo High School

Counselors

The Counseling Office is located at one end of A-Hall. Many students bring their problems and issues here to see the counseling staff. Appointments to see the counselor are arranged here. The office also handles homework requests, weekly progress report distribution, and even makes the occasional transcript. College materials such as registration packets and SAT and ACT information are distributed from this office. This office also assists the Registrar in requesting student files. So many questions--so little time!

We work to make parents and students as comfortable as possible. Please let us know how we can assist you.

Sarah McCarthy

I think high school is such an important time for developing identity, exploring and finding interests and passions, questioning assumptions and surroundings, and learning how to work hard. Unfortunately, many youth are overlooked and under-supported throughout this process, so I do what I can to help reverse that as a counselor. I believe that my job as a counselor is to care for and honor each student in his or her entirety. Counselors can play a unique role in serving as the glue between school, home, peers, and future prospects, and I find this incredibly rewarding. I look forward to getting to know students and involving myself in more deeply in SLZ life outside the counseling office! I hope to help foster a school community that honors diversity, insists on hard work of high quality, and models what we hope for in society.

I see the school community as a place for students to gain the skills, knowledge, and wisdom they need to become productive and successful members of society. As a school counselor, it is my role to support students with guidance in helping them reach their academic potential. My role as a counselor is not only to work just with students, but also collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents, to find the best resources and assistance for all students in achieving their goals. I am excited and proud to be part of a team and a community that helps students strive towards a solid education and future.

As a school counselor I work to help all students maximize their potential. I believe that all students deserve the born-given right to an equitable education. Students should feel safe and valued in their school community. My role at San Lorenzo High to provide students guidance in the academic, personal/social, and career domains: I support students by meeting with them individually and in groups. I also support students by collaborating with parents, teachers, and staff. A healthy and safe school can create a healthy and safe community! Students: I BELIEVE in you!
