Enrollment and Registration Procedures

Is a Student Eligible to Enroll at SLZ?

At what address will this student be residing?
A student wishing to enroll at San Lorenzo High must reside in the SLZ attendance area. Students who live outside the San Lorenzo Unified School District who wish to attend district schools have the right to apply for an Inter-district Attendance Agreement from their current district of residence. These agreements may be approved on a space-available basis.
Has this student ever been expelled from school or is he/she returning from a continuation school?
A student wishing to enroll under these circumstances must go to the assistant principal's office in room A-8 to make an appointment before enrollment can be conducted.
Will this student be living with anyone other than the parent?
If yes, the student will be referred to Mr. Angelo Madrigal at the district office in Special Services. Someone from this office will contact the parent/guardian to arrange a meeting to verify the residence address.

Enrollment Information Required of New Students

New enrollees are required to provide the following:

  1. Two (2) current proofs of residency, these may be escrow papers, or a rental agreement with the legal guardian's name on it. It may also include a current PG&E, telephone, or East Bay MUD bill indicating the correct address with the legal guardian's name on it.
  2. Original Birth Certificate or Certified copy of Birth Certificate, Baptismal Certificate or passport.
  3. Parent Identification, driver's license, current picture I.D., green card.
  4. The student's Health Immunization Records. This must include the polio series & booster dates, DPT series and booster dates, and the MMR--measles, mumps, & rubella vaccine dates.
  5. Transcript and/or Report card and any test scores from the student's previous school.

A parent/guardian must be present with the student to enroll a new student(in order to complete and sign enrollment paperwork).

In addition, parents/legal guardians wishing to register at San Lorenzo High must present a current photo ID, and legal guardians must also present legal documentation of guardianship of the student being registered.

Proof of Residency for Returning Students

Continuing ninth grade students as well as those entering the San Lorenzo Unified School District for the first time will be required to show two proofs of residence in order to be enrolled at a district middle and high schools.

Proof of residence may be established by providing the school with two of the following proofs of residence.

  1. Escrow papers showing purchase of home and name of parent/legal guardian
  2. Rental agreement with receipt for deposit showing the name and telephone number of the rental unit manager and the name of the parent/legal guardian
  3. Current PG&E, telephone, water, Cable TV invoice or service-requested invoice (within 30 days of enrollment). Invoices must show current name, address, and name of parent/legal guardian.
  4. Homeowner's insurance showing correct address and name of parent/legal guardian.
  5. Social Service statement showing the name of the enrollee and the name of the parent/legal guardian

In addition, parents/legal guardians wishing to register at San Lorenzo High must present a current photo ID, and legal guardians must also present legal documentation of guardianship of the student being registered.

Open Enrollment

San Lorenzo Unified School District students not living in the SLZ attendance area who wish to go to school at SLZ must have the appropriate permit before enrolling. This also applies to students living in the SLZ attendance area who wish to go to school at Arroyo High School. The District holds an Open Enrollment Window each April for parents/students to express their wishes. There is a two week period in April in which open enrollments are accepted.

Inter-District Permits

Students living outside the San Lorenzo Unified School District who wish to attend SLZ must file an Inter-District permit with their home school district. A reason for the transfer must be given. If the home school district approves, the San Lorenzo Unified School District will review attendance, behavior, and grades and determine if it also approves. Students who have their inter-district permit approved must maintain satisfactory attendance, behavior, and grades to retain their enrollment at SLZ.

Students who have moved outside the district and not obtained an Inter-district Permit, or who have presented a false address in order to enroll, will be excluded from the district immediately upon discovery. Interdistrict permits must be renewed each year.
