San Lorenzo High School

Internet Policy

Students will get access to a world-wide network called the Internet. The reason for using the Internet is to participate in a curriculum project developed by teachers. The student will reach this world-wide network through a computer account provided through the San Lorenzo Unified School District.

An outside provider is connected to the school district which connects the local computer to the Internet. The Internet links computer networks around the world, giving students and employees access to a wide variety of computer and information resources. In general, electronic traffic passes freely in a trusting atmosphere with a minimum of constraints.

The outside provider gives open access to these local, national and international sources of information and collaboration vital to intellectual inquiry in a democracy. In defining the Internet's resources as an extension of the Library, this network subscribes to the Library Bill of Rights which states that "A person's right to use a library should not be denied or abridged because of origin, age, background or views."

In return, every user has the responsibility to respect and protect the rights of every user on SLUSDNet and on the Internet. All of this District's Internet account holders are expected to act with appropriate behavior, in a responsible, ethical and legal manner, in accordance with the guidelines set forth in this document, the complete District policy entitled "Internet Use Policy," and the laws of the states and the United States.

For more complete information, guidelines, or to have questions answered the parent is asked to contact the school. A complete copy of this policy and its attendant rules and regulations is housed at each site.
