School Characteristics
San Lorenzo High School is a public comprehensive 9-12th grade school with 1600 students. The student body reflects the diversity of the community with an ethnic distribution of 21.3% African- American, 7.3% Filipino, 8.1% Asian, 50.5% Hispanic, 1.7% Pacific-Islander, and 10.3% Caucasian. Our school format is a 4 x 4 block schedule. The school year consists of two terms, fall and spring, each lasting 18 weeks. Each term has two semesters lasting nine weeks. Letter grades A-F are assigned at the end of each semester. Students are offered four courses each term and can complete eight courses each year. The school day consists of four blocks of 90 minutes each. Students in 9th and 10th grades are enrolled in a core program of four courses each term that form a foundation for the academic program. Students in 11th and 12th grades combine core academic courses and electives that support college and career opportunities. Students in the 12"' grade who are up to date in credits may elect to take a minimum of three courses each term or a total of six during the year. San Lorenzo has received a six year accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
Curriculum
Graduation requirements are as follows:

- 3 courses science
- 3 courses physical education
- 1 course foreign language or fine arts
- 2 courses in school to career
Each course receives 10 credits and is made up of two semesters. Total credits required for graduation: 290. Starting with the Class of 2004, all students must pass the California High School Exit Exam to earn a diploma. Students who transfer to San Lorenzo from a non-block schedule are allotted a 1.33 credit conversion to compensate for our year-in-a-semester format. The credit conversion is clearly indicated on the transcript and is valid only in the San Lorenzo District. The honors class is English 11. Advanced Placement courses include: AP Calculus, AP Chemistry, AP English 12, AP U. H. History and AP Government. The AVID program is available to students beginning with the Class of 2006.
Transcripts
Students receive letter grades, A-F. Grade point averages are computed using a 4.0 scale that is not weighted for Honors or Advanced Placement courses. Pluses and minuses may appear on student transcripts but will not be used in computing grade point averages.
