School Safety Plan
All San Lorenzo unified School District schools reflect the following: A caring, learning environment where students are expected to succeed and where positive behavior will be rewarded frequently; a place where student's cultural heritage is respected and there is tolerance for racial, age, language, physical, gender, lifestyle and ethnic differences; a place where individuals resolve differences through a process of conflict resolution.
Prevention... a "key" in maintaining safe schools
- Board policy relating to School Visitors on school sites is enforced;
- The campus perimeter of each school is secured from criminal activity; rest rooms are safe and secure; and lighting is installed and maintained in appropriate areas of each campus;
- Ongoing training is conducted for Campus Security personnel, parents, volunteers, and staff as appropriate and as needed to assist in campus supervision;
- Damage fences, lights, broken glass, overgrown bushes, dead trees and vandalism are corrected promptly;
- Police/fire representatives and/or District/county risk managers participates in safety review of school campuses to assist staff to respond effectively to security and safety crises;
- School administrators are rapidly available and responsive to all members of the school community and are highly visible on the campus and in the classrooms;
- Staff members model respectful, positive behaviors when dealing with students and respond fairly and consistently to violations, including disciplinary issues and criminal infractions;
- Consequences for violating behavior and academic expectations are fair and consistent;
- Discipline: a developmental process is aimed at changes in behavior and attitude and is not merely a punitive reaction;
- School administrators facilitate shared decision making involving all staff, School Resource Officers, students, parents and community members to enhance safety at each site;
- School Site Crisis Response Plans identifies procedures to follow during human emergencies such as bomb threats, death of a student, weapons on campus; and student walkouts;
- The Emergency Operation Plan's procedures (available in Principal's office) are in effect and followed for all emergency situations.
