SELAC

SELAC, the Site English Language Advisory Committee, is a group of teachers and parents whose main concerns are the welfare of the school's English Language Learners. Each school with a large population of English Language Learners is required to have a committee. It is an advisory committee in the governing process of the school much like School Site Council. This committee is to have elected officers and safegaurd the rights of our ELL population. It is the school's job to keep the parents informed about the English Language Development program here at San Lorenzo, as well as our regular school program.

We hold meetings about ELD classes, requirements for the ELD department, graduation requirements here at San Lorenzo and the the CELDT exam. In the past we have also discussed college entrance requirements, the school's overall plan, and clubs and organizations on campus. In addition, we have had gang awareness meetings depending on the amount of gang activity on campus and the parental interest. Every year at our first meeting of the SELAC committee we survey our parents to find out which topics may be of interest to them. We often begin with the previously mentioned topics, but are always open to new areas of interest.

We also answer parents' questions and refer them to counselors or the teachers of their child. All meetings have snacks, Spanish translation and babysitting as needed. Please watch the website's bulletin board for the announcement of meetings. We would love to have your input at one of our future meetings.
