Bill Versino Steps Down after 18 years as SLz Football Coach and 15 years as Athletic Director
After spending 25 years teaching, coaching and mentoring many young men and women and 15 years as Athletic Director at San Lorenzo, Mr. Bill Versino is stepping down and moving on to Washington Manor. Mr. Versino was not only a leader at San Lorenzo High but also a strong presence in the Hayward Area Athletic League where he served as Assistant League Commissioner. Mr. Versino’s leadership will be missed by many throughout our community.
Teacher Kathy Fisler Receives Award, April 30, 2008 Kathy Fislar was recognized for her outstanding efforts and interest in the welfare and education of our students with special needs in the Mid Alameda County Special Education Local Planning Area (MAC-SELPA). San Lorenzo USD is part of the MAC-SELPA which also includes the San Leandro, Hayward and Castro Valley school districts. The MAC-SELPA Community Advisory Committee (CAC) awarded Kathy the CAC Excellence in Special Education Award. Nominations for this award are made by parents, staff and students who nominate individuals who are dedicated, compassionate and work directly with students receiving special education services. The CAC members and guests including distinguished Board of Education members and Superintendents from throughout the MAC-SELPA honored Kathy during the reception held on April 30th in Castro Valley. Math Teacher Estelle Woodbury, April 2008 Math department Co-chair Estelle Woodbury recently was interviewed by ABC-7 News as part of a story on ways to improve the teaching of mathematics. Ms. Woodbury was serving on a panel sponsored by the East Bay Community Foundation, California Mathematics Council, and Mathematical Sciences Research Institute. The event brought together school and community-based educators, leaders from academia, researchers, and donors with an interest in education, particularly science and math education. Luis Alvarez receives state academic recognition, March 2008
SLz senior Luis Alvarez was recognized at the first Annual Governor’s Academic Recognition and All-State Academic Team Awards Dinner in Sacramento, in March 2008. 144 students from the state of California were recognized for their academic and extracurricular accomplishments. |
