T.R.A.K.S.T.R.A.K.S. (Teen Rebels Against Kids Smoking) is another component in which trained students teach elementary students the negative effects of smoking cigarettes. T.R.A.K.S. is funded by the San Lorenzo Unified School District's competitive TUPE Grant and is a program designed to train peer educators on the health risks, economics, and advertising tactics involved in using all forms of tobacco ingestion. Students receive training by the District's TUPE coordinator and then, forming peer education teams, these students plan and implement lesson plans that 'pass along' vital information to students in middle schools and in high school health classes, so that students can make healthier lifestyle choices. T.R.A.K.S. works with our smoking cessation program, Health Center, and their counterparts at Arroyo High School. Next year, T.R.A.K.S will work with other disciplines (photography, drama, T.V. communications, marketing, economics, leadership and health programs) in implementing an exciting, highly visible new tobacco education program. Meetings are held in Portable "C" during lunch on Wednesdays. All students are encouraged to check us out and then, get involved..
